This handmade photo collage is from my “Architextures” series, ongoing since 2000, which combines my lifelong involvement with both silver-based photography and collage. The B&W negatives that I shoot in New York (where I live part-time), I later transform in my darkroom and collage studio in Silver Spring, MD. I hand-print multiples of an image, which I hand-cut and -assemble into 2-D and 3-D geometric abstract collages. The inspiration for this series is the architecture and urban landscapes of Manhattan. I also use images of nature, store window interiors, and other locales and subjects that evoke strong feelings of a time or place.
